For Sawyer, August is a mix of enjoying summer and sunshine, while also slowly getting into the back to school mode. It's all about savoring the last weeks of the summer break and planning ahead to start the new school year off on the right foot. We went ahead and created a list of our favorite things to do this month:
Explore an Urban Farm (or Rooftop Garden!) in Your Neighborhood
There is nothing more exciting than a trip to a farm - and even better if you can do it in the city! Randall's Island in NYC offers tours of their fruit and veggie farm every Saturday and Sunday at 11am through October. Or check out Brooklyn Grange and book a tour at either their Long Island City or Brooklyn Navy Yard locations on Wednesdays or Saturdays. Gotham Greens also offers tours at their Whole Foods Location in Gowanus.
Enjoy some Rainbow Food Before the Summer is Over
Unicorn and rainbow food has been the absolute trend this summer and we are obsessed with it too! Treat your children to a Cake Shake at Black Tap. Or try the Unicorn Latte (coffee free!) at The End. The Rainbow Crepe Cake from Dek Sen will definitely leave your little ones speechless.
Take a Trip to The Beach
Living in New York's concrete jungle, doesn't mean you can't easily access nearby beaches. Rockaway Beach and Coney Island are easily accessible by subway, car or bike (depending on where you live). If you have a little more time, take a trip to Long Island or Fire Island.
Start Planning Your Little One's After School Programs
September is back to school month and that also means getting ready for after school activities. If you want to make sure you can secure a spot for your children at their favorite programs or you want them to explore something new, then start getting ready now and check out the best after school classes here.
