3 Healthy Snack Ideas That Your Kids Will Love
Getting your children to eat healthy, can be a challenge sometimes, especially if they are convinced that 'healthy' equals 'not tasty'. But it doesn't have to be that way! Including your kids in the preparation process in the kitchen is one way to make them embrace (healthy) food. Another way is to come up with fun and playful recipes. Ants on a log
Who doesn't know ants on a log? And seriously, it's a great way to make your kids eat some fruit and healthy fat without too much trouble. You just need:
1 ripe banana
1 tsp raisins (golden or brown)
1 tsp chocolate chips
2 tbsp almond or cashew butter
Some maple syrup
Peal the banana then cut it length wise. Now smear the nut butter on top of each side. Then place the raisins and chocolate chips on top of it like little ants walking on a log. Drizzle with maple syrup for some extra sweetness.
Banana Blueberry Nice Cream
Banana Nice Cream is super fast to make and careful, parents might become addicted themselves. Here is what you need:
1 very ripe banana, chopped up and frozen over night
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 medjool dates
Handful of Chocolate chips
In a high speed blender, blend up frozen banana until creamy and smooth (like ice cream!), then add cinnamon, vanilla extract and pitted dates and blend a little more until well combined and smooth. Pour in a bowl and top with blueberries and chocolate chips.
Rice Crispy Treats
Rice crispy treats are a classic but they are often over sweet and over buttered. This recipe is a delicious adaptation with less processed sugar and less fat. You just need:
3 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp maple syrup
4 cups marshmallows
6 cups puffed rice cereal
In a pan, melt coconut oil and combine with marshmallows until completely melted. Add rice cereal and stir. Then add maple syrup and mix until well combined and coated. Press mixture into non stick pan coated with oil. Then let cool down for 2 hours in the fridge. When ready, cut up in individual pieces.
